Tyres are the only part of your vehicle that make contact with the road, yet they are often overlooked until a puncture or worn tread becomes obvious. Regular tyre inspections are an important part of vehicle maintenance and can help identify problems before they affect safety, fuel economy or handling.

At Aitken Bros Autos, tyres are inspected during every service, and customers are advised when tyre replacement is becoming necessary. This allows vehicle owners to plan ahead rather than being surprised by an unroadworthy tyre or an inconvenient breakdown.

A tyre inspection involves more than measuring tread depth. Tyres should also be checked for:

What Should Be Checked During a Tyre Inspection?

Delamination or separation of tyre layers

Damage from impacts with potholes or rough roads

Delaying vehicle servicing can mean these issues go unnoticed for longer, increasing the risk of reduced tyre life or tyre failure.

Many drivers are surprised to learn that tyres have a date of manufacture. Over time, rubber naturally hardens and deteriorates due to age, sunlight, temperature changes and general use.

As an industry guide, many tyres begin to warrant closer inspection once they reach around 7 to 8 years of age, with tyres approaching 10 years often considered unsuitable for continued road use, depending on their quality, storage conditions, usage and overall condition.

Vehicles that spend long periods parked, travel on rough rural roads or experience temperature extremes may place additional stress on tyre rubber.

Wheel alignments and wheel balancing can help extend tyre life by reducing uneven wear and improving vehicle handling. Suspension wear, potholes, kerb impacts and everyday driving can gradually alter wheel alignment without the driver noticing.

Tyre inspections are particularly important before long-distance travel. Don't forget the spare tyre either — an unused spare can still deteriorate with age and should be checked regularly.

Whether you drive a family car, SUV, ute or 4WD, Aitken Bros Autos offers tyre and wheel packages for passenger vehicles and four-wheel drives. The team can help select tyres suited to your driving conditions, vehicle requirements and budget.

A tyre can look perfectly acceptable from the outside while age-related deterioration is occurring internally. This is why checking tyre age and condition can be just as important as checking tread depth.

For tyre inspections, wheel alignments, balancing and tyre replacement advice, contact Aitken Bros Autos in Terang. As an independently owned Repco Authorised Service centre member, the team can help keep your tyres in sound condition and ready for everyday driving or your next long-distance trip.

Thorough Repair Works – What Sets Us Apart:

At Aitken Bros Autos, “thorough” means complete, careful, and uncompromising. When we say we perform a thorough repair, we don’t just fix the symptom — we identify and resolve the root cause.

Here’s what you can expect from our in-depth repair process:

1. Comprehensive Diagnostics: Every major repair begins with a full system scan and physical inspection using advanced diagnostic equipment. We go beyond surface-level codes to check for underlying mechanical or electrical issues that may not trigger warning lights yet.

2. Step-by-Step Evaluation: Our technicians follow a meticulous checklist tailored to each vehicle and issue. For instance, a misfiring engine won’t just get a spark plug replacement—we inspect the ignition coils, fuel injectors, wiring, timing system, and cylinder compression.

3. Quality Parts & Precision Fitment: We use OEM or high-grade aftermarket parts like Valvoline engine lubricants and Ryco filtration products to ensure durability. Ensuring the vehicle operates like new once repairs are complete.

4. Root-Cause Resolution: Rather than masking problems with quick fixes, we trace symptoms to their source. For example, in brake system repairs, we’ll not only replace worn pads but also inspect calipers, lines, master cylinder, and all other components in a system to prevent recurring issues.

5. Post-Repair Testing & Validation: After every major repair, we test the vehicle under real-world driving conditions and re-scan all systems. Our goal is to return your vehicle in peak condition — not just running, but performing optimally and safely

Our fully qualified log book servicing ensures your car is in safe hands, and we provide quality car service and repairs on all models, including four wheel drive and diesel vehicles.

Do you feel every bump in the road? Does your car struggle to grip the road properly? Your shock absorbers be worn! Don’t take the risk—bring your vehicle to Aitken Bros Autos in Terang for an expert assessment.

Shock absorbers are one of the most misunderstood yet critical components of your vehicle. Many drivers don’t realise their primary job is to keep your tyres in firm contact with the road, ensuring both safety and performance.

Shock absorbers, along with struts, are vital parts of your car’s suspension system. They directly affect your vehicle's steering, stability, handling, braking and ride comfort. Replacing worn or faulty shocks and struts, as well as inspecting the overall suspension system, helps maintain control, safety, and a smoother driving experience.

A lesser-known fact is that shock absorbers also play a key role in reducing wear on other vehicle components, such as tyres, by minimising the vibration and stress that uneven roads place on the car.

If you notice concerning signs of shock absorber wear, don’t wait. Visit the team at Aitken Bros Autos in Terang. Our qualified technicians can conduct a road test and provide professional advice. Below are some of the warning signs to watch for:

Trouble stopping Worn shock absorbers can increase your stopping distance by up to 20%, which could be life-threatening. Addressing this issue immediately is crucial.

Nose-diving and swerving Does the front of your car dip down when braking, or does the vehicle swerve when you slow down? These are classic signs of shock absorber problems.

Steering wheel vibrations If your steering wheel vibrates excessively, even on relatively smooth roads, it could point to faulty shock absorbers.

Drifting in side winds If your car veers or drifts in mild side winds, it’s a strong indicator that your shock absorbers may not be functioning correctly.

Excessive bouncing and rolling Is your car bouncing excessively over bumps, railway tracks, or uneven surfaces? Or does it feel unsteady around corners? It might be time for a suspension check-up at Aitken Bros Autos.

Uneven tyre wear Uneven or patchy tyre wear, especially bald spots, is often a sign of worn shock absorbers. This issue can reduce your tyres’ lifespan and compromise road safety.

At Aitken Bros Autos, we’re proud members of the Monroe Safety Specialist Program. This means our team is fully trained and committed to providing you with the right shock absorber solution tailored to your vehicle, driving habits, and individual needs. You can trust that any product we recommend will be fitted correctly and deliver optimal performance.
